Requests Introduction

The requests process records, tracks, and responds to requests from offenders, or referrals from personnel or agencies (such as the Courts).

Requests and referrals can deal with a number of issues in the day-to-day care of an offender. Offenders may request that trust monies be forwarded to third parties, that they be provided with special medical or dental care, that they receive a different placement or protective custody, that they be issued a special diet, that they be reassigned in their work or housing location, etc. A case officer may refer an offender to placement, or refer an offender for work reassignment. Each one of these requests must be tracked, and a response must be provided and documented.

There can be up to four stages in a request process.

  1. Request: the request is recorded.

  2. Disposition: a decision regarding the request is made (e.g. approved, denied, referred). Some requests proceed to stage 3: "Review," without a disposition.

At this stage, it should be determined whether the request should move forward in the process, or be dropped ("discharged").

After determining whether the request requires a disposition, and whether the request will continue in the process, the request must be scheduled for review.

  3. Review: the request (and if applicable, the disposition) is reviewed.

  4. Result: a result is obtained from the request review, and the review result is recorded.

For each of these stages, the status of the request changes (e.g. open, disposed, discharged, pending, active, and reviewed).

Requests are initiated automatically from the following TAG screens: Offenses in Custody Appeals, Discipline Placement, and Assessments. When a (review) date in any of those screens is entered, that date will automatically fill in the Request Date field on the Request screen.
