If you know that an offender has a record on the database, but are unsure of the exact spelling of the name, you can do a Soundex search to retrieve names that sound similar but are spelled differently.
To access this screen from the Main Menu, select Search/assign Partial search.
Search Method field: Select S (for "soundex")
Enter the Surname you are looking for (for example, "SMITHE").
Press Execute Query. (The system retrieves all offenders whose Last Name sounds like Smithe.
If a name looks like it may be the offender you are booking, click the name, then click the List of Values. This brings up the Exact Search screen, with the selected name in the Surname field.
If you cannot find the correct offender record, you may want to try another search. Click Quit/Exit to leave this screen. To create a new offender record, go to the Assign Offender Number screen.
Once you’ve selected an offender, that person’s ID# remains in system memory until you select another offender to work with.
