Entering Sentences Introduction

All sentence orders committing offenders to the custody of your institution must be recorded on the Commitment Order screen. Among the information that needs to be recorded on TAG:

Based on this information, TAG automatically calculates the sentence expiry date and the earliest possible release date for the offender.

The procedure on TAG for entering and verifying sentence information is:

  1. Look for outstanding hold orders that must be cleared for the sentenced charges. (If a hold order is active, and the same Info# and Charge(s) are now on a sentence order, the counts that have been sentenced must be cleared.)

  2. Clear any outstanding counts/charges on the screen on which they were entered.

  3. Record offender earned credits. The earned credits influence the length of an offender's sentence.

  4. Record the sentence—convictions, offences and individual sentences. TAG calculates the sentence expiry date.

  5. Derive the earliest possible release date. TAG calculates this date taking into account all sentences for an offender.

  6. Double check that sentences have been entered correctly by reviewing this screen against the legal documents.
