In the Charges block, you record the charges for the case selected in the Cases block, and track what happens to the charges for each event.
From the Orders block on the Cases screen, click Next Block to access the Charges block.
To list all the charges associated with the selected order, fill in the fields. Each different charge gets one line. You can have multiple counts of the same charge in the same line.
Statute: this field fills automatically when you choose an Offence type.
Offence/Description: type in an offence code; mandatory. If you know the code for the offence, type it in the Offence field and move to the next field with the Tab key or the mouse.
If you don't know the code, click the List of Values to open the Valid Offenses pop-up window. The window lists all valid offences in alphabetical order by description. If necessary, query to locate the offence you want, or conduct a wildcard query on the Offence Code or Offence Description. Once you have located it, click OK. The window closes and the offense, statute and description appear in the Charges block.
C[oun]ts: type in the number of counts against the offender; mandatory. The number defaults to 1, and must be greater than zero.
Type: select a type from the List of Values; optional.
Offence Date/Range: two date fields; optional. If the exact offence date is known, type it in the first date field. If you only know that the offence occurred between two dates, or if there are numerous counts of the same offence occurring between two dates, type both in. Use standard date format.
C[om[m[en]t: type in a comment; optional.
Ch[ar]g[e] Status: may be system generated, otherwise select from the List of Values; mandatory.
O[rders]/R[equests]: displays the number of orders or requests allocated against this offence. To see details of the orders/requests, click the List of Values to open the Orders/Request Allocated Against This Offence window.
Copy: check this box if you want the record to be copied to a new line; optional. The copied record can be updated to create a new record. This makes entering repeated occurrences of the same kind of charge for the same offender faster and easier.
Click Save.
