The tasks you can perform on TAG depend on which screens you are given access privileges to use. The screens you have access privilege to break up the information into two different access types: update access and inquiry access.
If a screen gives you update access to a piece of information, you can make additions, deletions or changes to that information. To be able to make changes to an offender's name, for example, you access the Aliases/other ID# screen. This screen gives you update access to offender names.
If a screen gives you inquiry access only to a piece of information, you can view that information, but you can't make any changes. On many screens, for example, you will have inquiry access to offender names, but will not be able to change them.
Screens that allow you update access to information in the database are the heart of TAG. You will use them to admit offenders, enter offender purchases at a commissary, enter detailed sentence information, and perform any other day-to-day tasks that involve updating information. Screens that allow you to update information are also known as update authority screens.
Some screens don't allow you to update any information in the database. These screens are for viewing purposes only, and are known as inquiry access screens (you only have inquiry access for all the information on the screen). Inquiry access screens can be thought of as a type of report. In fact, the only difference between an inquiry access screen and a report screen is that a report screen is formatted for printing information on paper, while inquiry access screens are formatted for viewing information on the screen.
