Care In Placement Introduction

In TAG terminology, care in placement means an offender must be handled with special care while in custody, for their own protection or for disciplinary reasons. Reasons for care in placement, such as protection or segregation, are defined by your TAG application administrator for your site.

Offender placement is a normal part of the classification process. The Classification screen (Institutions > Classification > Classification) records an Approved Placement based on an assessment of offender needs and risks. If there are no exceptional circumstances and a regular placement will do, no special care in placement is needed.

If, however, the assessment identifies potential problems, a specialized care in placement program can be recommended. The TAG Care In Placement screen (Institutions > Classification > carE in placemt) records the reason for the pro-gram, effective and expiry dates, and additional commentary as needed.

A care in placement program can also be implemented at any other time during an offender's custody, temporarily (for instance, for disciplinary reasons) or long-term (as may be required for some cases of protective custody).

A care in placement assignment usually requires a move to a more secure housing location. The actual movement of the offender is recorded on the Change Housing Location screen (Institutions > mOvements > Bed change).
