You can close a legal case by recording a case event that your TAG administrator has set up to close a legal case. This is done on the Legal Cases screen. Check with your TAG administrator to determine which case events close a case, according to your business practices.
When you close a legal case by recording a case event that has been set up to close a case, then all of the orders/conditions attached to that legal case are automatically "discharged," and the case status becomes Inactive (Case Closed).
Once a legal case is Inactive (Case Closed), you cannot update any of the offenses, orders, or requests attached to that case, or update any existing case events. Nor can you create any new offenses, orders, or requests for the inactive case.
To access this screen from the Main Menu, select Community Orders/Requests Legal cases.
If necessary, query in the Header block to locate the offender.
Click Next Block to access the Cases block.
In the Cases block, select the case you wish to close.
Click Next Block to access the Case Events block.
In the Case Events block, go to a blank line to fill in the case event that will close the selected legal case.
Fill in these fields:
Date: type in today's date using a MM\DD\YYYY format.
Time: type in the present time; HH:MM (24-hour clock) format; optional.
Event Type: select from the List of Values the event type that your TAG administrator has set up to close a case; mandatory.
[Event] Sub-type: select from the List of Values the event sub-type that your TAG administrator has set up to close a case; mandatory.
Location: select a location from the List of Values; mandatory.
Depart[ment]: select a department from the List of Values; optional.
Judge: select a judge from the List of Values; optional.
Comment: type in a comment; optional.
Status: select from the List of Values the status that your TAG administrator has set up to close a case; mandatory.
Click Save. This changes the case status to Inactive or Case Closed depending on your business practices. If this case has a legal order, then the order status (and the status of any conditions attached to the order) change to Discharged.
